Designed as a complete water feature system

A bespoke waterfall is more than a decorative finish. It requires the correct structural support, waterproofing, hydraulic design and access for maintenance. Our design considers the complete operating system, including water collection, circulation, filtration and control.

Where appropriate, the installation can include a concealed reservoir or balance tank, circulation pump, suction and return pipework, filtration, automatic water top-up, water treatment, overflow protection, isolation valves, drainage, LED lighting and electrical controls. Pump selection and outlet geometry are calculated to produce the intended sheet, curtain or cascade of water while controlling splash and noise.

Our design and construction process

1. Consultation and site assessment: We review the proposed location, dimensions, access, surrounding materials, drainage, electrical supply and relationship with the wider garden design.
2. Concept and technical design: We develop the waterfall form, water path, collection detail, hydraulic arrangement and service-access strategy.
3. Structure and substrate: The feature is constructed using a suitable reinforced concrete, masonry, stainless steel or lightweight engineered system according to the design.
4. Waterproofing: Junctions, penetrations and movement-sensitive areas receive a compatible tanking system designed for permanently wet conditions.
5. Mechanical installation: Pumps, pipework, outlets, filtration, tanks and controls are installed with practical access for future servicing.
6. Tiling and finishing: Mosaic, porcelain, ceramic or natural-stone finishes are installed with adhesives, grouts and sealants selected for water-feature use.
7. Testing and commissioning: The system is filled, pressure and flow checked, balanced and adjusted to achieve the required appearance and sound.

Tiled, mosaic, porcelain and stone finishes

The finish can be selected to blend quietly into the landscape or become a dramatic visual centrepiece. Options include glass mosaic, ceramic mosaic, large-format porcelain, stone-effect porcelain and selected natural stone. We can coordinate coping, paving, planters, seating and feature lighting so the waterfall reads as part of the complete landscape rather than an isolated addition.

Careful detailing is particularly important at the water outlet, tiled edges, collection channel and splash zone. These areas determine whether the finished water flow appears clean and intentional and whether surrounding surfaces remain practical to maintain.

Water flow, sound and splash control

Different outlet types create very different effects. A smooth water blade produces a clean architectural sheet, while a stepped or textured face creates a more natural cascade with increased sound. The drop height, flow rate, landing detail and wind exposure all affect splash and water loss. We design these elements together rather than selecting a pump in isolation.

Lighting and controls

Integrated low-voltage LED lighting can highlight the water flow, tiled surface or receiving basin after dark. Controls may range from a simple local switch to timed, remote or smart operation. Where the feature forms part of a wider pool or wellness installation, its controls can be coordinated with the main plant-room system.
